Sen. Elizabeth Warren ripped Republicans for "plotting" to get a conservative Supreme Court that would finally overturn Roe v. Wade and remove the constitutional right to an abortion.
"The Republicans have been working toward this day for decades," Warren told reporters Tuesday. "They have been out there plotting, carefully cultivating these Supreme Court justices so they could have a majority on the bench who would accomplish something that the majority of Americans do not want."
Warren was referring to a leaked Supreme Court opinion penned by Justice Samuel Alito that appears to signal that five of the court's conservative justices will overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision enshrining the right to an abortion.
"I am angry and upset and determined. The United States Congress can keep Roe v. Wade the law of the land. They just need to do it," Warren said.
Warren cited polling that found 69% of people across the country — "red states and blue states, old people and young people" — want Roe v. Wade to "maintain as the law of the land."
"We need to do that and we have a right," Warren said.

The draft opinion, which leaked Monday night, has spurred outrage from Democrats, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer calling it "one of the worst" decisions in history.
"If the report is accurate, the Supreme Court is poised to inflict the greatest restriction of rights in the past fifty years – not just on women but on all Americans," the top two Congressional Democrats said in a joint statement. "The Republican-appointed Justices' reported votes to overturn Roe v. Wade would go down as an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history."
The court has confirmed the draft is authentic but said the decision isn't final and that an investigation will be opened to find who leaked the document. Republicans — who have sought to restrict abortion rights in over a dozen states — have focused their attention on the leak, with many declining to comment on the apparent decision itself.
